Abstract
Wikis are simple to use collaborative hypertext authoring systems. In recent years, these systems have caught the attention of the education community, because they embody many aspects of personal empowerment and communication between learners. To date, most work on Wiki in education has focused on use for information creation and sharing by students at the post-primary level. In this paper, we present a case study where primary level students (Grade 4-6) used a Wiki for collaborative storytelling. The paper reports on our experience with this activity in the course of 5 semesters since 2002, each semester comprising 9 hours of class time. The paper reports observations on the collaborative and creation processes that took place during the activity. It also describes the activity in sufficient detail to allow a technically sophisticated teacher to use it in the classroom, and makes recommendations on how Wiki could be improved to better support collaborative storytelling by young children.
