Abstract
This page catalogs some mistakes and omissions in Encyclopædia Britannica (EB) and shows how they have been corrected in Wikipedia.

This page illustrates one advantage conferred by the open nature of Wikipedia: given a sufficient number of informed readers, errors may be spotted and corrected more quickly than in printed reference projects such as EB. Yet this open nature also allows the participation of ill-informed or ill-intentioned reader-editors, who can introduce errors.

Error rates are but one measure of the quality of a reference work. Others include uniformity of high-quality entries, the accuracy of an entry selected at random, and the lack of entries that are largely inaccurate or heavily biased.
