Abstract     
"An overview will be given of the research literature on educational effectiveness research. The term “educational effectiveness” is used as a general term that encompasses school and instructional effectiveness. “School effectiveness” refers to effectiveness enhancing conditions defined at school level and “instructional effectiveness”
to effectiveness enhancing conditions situated at the teacher and classroom level. Multi-level definitions, in which school level conditions, classroom level conditions and usually also conditions in the larger context of the school are included are sometimes referred to as “integrated school effectiveness models” and sometimes as “integrated educational effectiveness models”.
In the first part, school effectiveness and integrated educational effectiveness studies are reviewed, while the second partis totally dedicated to instructional effectiveness. Instead of “instructional effectiveness” terms like teacher and teaching effectiveness are also used.
