Since 2007 the ERASMUS programme has been included under the new Integrated Lifelong Learning Programme (ILLP) of which it is the largest strand, but its content and priorities have been little affected by this move (the major change introduced on that occasion was the addition of industrial placements for students, that were formerly part of the Leonardo da Vinci programme).
Little change in the programme can be expected until the end of the current phase in 2013, except that the need for a deeper repositioning of ERASMUS in order to adapt it to a profoundly different context in the decade of the 2010’ might become more visible and acknowledged over time.
The purpose of this short article is to venture into identifying some of the changes that are likely to shape the next stage of the programme. This exercise will unavoidably have a somewhat speculative aspect, but it is also expected to provide some input to the preparation of the next phase of the ILLP, since work on this will have to begin as early as 2010 in view of the timely adoption of the programme for the period from 2013.
