Abstract |
"Good policy and practice is based on a solid and accurate base of information and research. We have heard from the members of the National Association of State Directors of Career Technical Education Consortium (www.careertech.org) that essential to this is learning with and about what is happening in other states, as well as what is happening around the country, collectively. This synthesis document was created to provide a snapshot of career technical education (CTE) in the United States. The source of the information included in this synthesis comes primarily from a 2005 survey completed by the state CTE directors; the list of states that completed the survey can be found in Appendix A. We supplemented this survey data with other sources, which are noted in the endnotes. We developed this synthesis to describe the current CTE system, recent trends, as well as highlight new areas of focus and priorities. We encourage you to look at the individual state profiles which provide more in-depth information on each state by visiting: http://www.careertech.org/reference/states/StateInfo.asp.
