Abstract |
"This book presents a well informed overview of recent research on a variety of developments in the field of school improvement. The central theme of the book is that an analysis of projects in a number of countries now provides us with a detailed data base from which lessons can be learnt about how to facilitate effective school improvement. The book comprises twelve chapters with thirty contributors. The book lives up to the title ‘international perspectives’ in outlining research from numerous countries. The contributors include a number of major writers in the field of school improvement research, most notably Mel Ainscow, Bert Creemers, Linda Darling-Hammond, Alma Harris, David Reynolds, Robert Slavin, Louise Stoll and Mel West. As well as case studies, the book also provides a detailed outline of a number of approaches and how these have been developed in different countries. These cover individual school-level intervention programmes and system-wide intervention programmes. The main strength of this book is the degree of detail it gives concerning these various approaches and the research evidence dealing with their implementation and evaluation."
